CJ's 1uz vvt build
« on: Mar 08, 2016, 12:54:11 PM »
Well I finally did it, pulled the old faithful 22re out.  Found a 1uz vvt from a 98 Lexus LS400.  It came with all the engine and dash electronics.  Motor was from a buddy so I new the history on the car.  86,000 miles and was in a role over couldn't ask for lower miles then that.  I would also like to thank Marlin Crawler for the support on the adapters and the transmission to get this beast mated.  Mike over at Offroad Solutions for the harness, 1uzfeswapkit.com for the auto bell housing to R150f adapter, and Don at Northwest Toys with the cooling and all the swap questions he answered for me on the weekends lol. Here is a couple pics of the truck and the start of the build.  :hammerhead:

Thanks man I am actually almost 100% done with the swap.  I like to start build threads after the build because I'm bad about updating the thread. lol  :turtle:

Here are a couple more build pics. Fully built R150f transmission with all the goodies being built and a little crack in the frame I had to take care of. Little to much fun chasing my buddy in the river.  The other side was cracked pretty bad also.  Pretty amazing what you find after you have been beating your truck for years and she still ran fine. Gotta love Toyota's even with a badly bent fuel pump bracket she fired right up and never missed a beat.

Yes I have, I finished it up right before KOH well at least enough to do some fat smoke shows with my 40's. It's not trail ready yet but it sure gets to the store in a hurry lol.  I just received my full hydro kit from PSC.  I decided to go that way because of steering shaft and drag link issues once installed it will be time to beat up on some rocks.

You stuck 2 3RZs together?  Smokeeburnoout!

What a fun swap.  We should all probably be doing this swap instead of the lesser engines.  I don't think I could get comfortable with the starter location though.  Is it as hard to change a starter as it looks?

yeah, I would replace that starter just for the sake of it being so difficult, Toyota part of course

Not gonna lie it worries me and that is the main reason I went with a 5speed instead of the auto.  My buddies can pull start me all weekend before I try to change that on the trail.  The whole top of the motor has to come off.

Some of the exhuest work I did myself.  Still have some looming to do but it fit.  Found the motor mounts off Ebay which allowed me to use the factory location on the frame and reuse the 22re motor mounts.

Here are a couple pics of the internal release/slave bearing that I chose to go with from a Camaro.  I'm using a Marlin Crawler/Seco 2500lb 9 5/16 pressure plate and disc with this internal slave and stock clutch master.  Everyone was telling me I was going to need a 3/4 bore Wildwood clutch master.  Well guess what the clutch works great.  Some added pressure to the pedal but nothing to cry over and I have bad knee's.

Nice!  I'd take a 1UZ in just about anything except a heavy rig.

Did you get rid of the 22RE yet?

I'm going to run over the little skate board. lol  The line is steel braided and I smoothed the bellhousing out really nice and slipped a piece of heater hose over the lines.  Details? Well she is a 92 short bed standard cab, 60's front and back 5.38 gears,  Zip locker up front full Yukon chromoly axles.  Marlin duals 2.28/4.7 with 30 spline outputs front and back. If anyone has specific question on the build let me know.  It's definitely a build in progress.  Next up is the full hydro setting on the floor and this coming winter linked and tubed.

Sorry for the down time but been busy at work trying to get all those orders shipped out the door. lol  Started making and mocking up the full hydro kit.  Hoping to get it fully wielded and working this weekend.  Then a full revision on the cooling system   Couple pics of the mount we fabbed up this week at my buddies shop.
