Pacific Northwest Mini Round-Up
« on: Feb 27, 2016, 10:49:16 AM »
*** dates for event: July 22nd through July 24th*** please reply with yay or nay on the roster below. Current roster found here: http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=100195.0;message=1117706

So I've been having this thought lately that I can't shake. My idea is this: I propose a yearly regional gathering of forum members for a weekend of camping and crawling. Starting with those of us in the PNW (which make up a large portion of active members on this forum). I know for me, going to the roundup last year was an incredible experience. The Rubicon was of course a large part of what made it special, but even more so was getting to hang out with forum members who I had been chatting with on a daily basis for so long. I also know, and I don't think I'm alone in this, that making it out to MCR is just not in the cards every year for me. However I sure could make it to a centralized location in the PNW every year for a mini roundup of PNW turtles. I'm open to ideas on the location and dates, as well if you guys think this is a dumb idea and I should go kick rocks  :hammerhead:

My personal vote for location would be Naches. Naches is located in south central Washington up in the Wenatchee National Forest. It is an absolute playground of every type of wheeling that can be desired. From mild to wild there is everything from green flowy tracks with beautiful scenery and little challenge to extreme rock crawling at the moon rocks with thousands of possible lines, and everything in between. Naches is in what I believe to be a perfect location as it is roughly the same distance from all of us. For those of us in Western and Northern Washington it is roughly 3-4 hours away. It is the same distance from Portland for all the Oregon guys. The Idaho wheelers would have the longest trek at roughly 6 hours from Boise however that is still very reasonable for a 3-4 day extended weekend of camping and crawling.

I have linked below some of the amazing wheeling that is to be had there. What you won't find below is footage of the wonderful camping that is to be had at Naches. I can personally attest that it is top notch. I usually take my club to one of the hundreds of sites along the Naches river and the sights and atmosphere can't be beat. With swim holes, incredible hikes, fishing, and much more it is definitely a location that encourages bringing the whole family along for the fun.

Anyways let me know what you guys think!  :beerchug:

Awesome. Lets spread the word to the other PNW wheelers on the board. I don't think everyone checks this section so some of them might not be seeing this post. Lets also start tossing around ideas for dates. If we do go with Naches It will have to be after June 5th as that is when it opens up. I would want it to be a summer thing anyways as that is when the best wheeling is open around here.

If I remember correctly, I thought it was 15th of July when they opened the naches trail?

Yup you are right. I knew it was a J month and a date with a 5 in it lol! In all seriousness though they opened it on memorial day weekend last year due to so little snow pack. So there is no telling when it will open this year. July or after would be a good call though in case they open it on schedule this year.

What do you guys think about using the event for fundraising for our local trails, similar to how the round-up does for the con? Or should we just keep it to purely hanging out, camping, and wheeling?

Depending on the timing of things I would try to make an appearance and possible camp for a night.

I would suggest keeping things as simple as possible for the first year and then consider moving towards the official fund raising campaign.  I think you'll find plenty to keep you busy just planning the first event.

1989 4Runner: Dual Ultimate (Inchworm front & Marlin 4.70 rear), Marlin Twin Stick, 1200-lb clutch, 4.88 R&P, Aussie Front, Detroit rear, 30-spline Longs, Long hub gears, ARP hub and knuckle studs & 35x12.50 Cooper STT PRO tires.  Marlin rear bumper & sliders.  FROR front bumper.  SAS with Alcan springs & Rancho 9000XL shocks.  Budbuilt Bolt-on traction bar.  Custom Interior Cage by Those Guys Rod and Customs.

Moab Tested & Rubicon Approved

I think a round-up is an awesome idea! And having one close to home is a huge bonus in only having to drive a few hours instead of a couple days to moab!

The marlin roundup is at the Rubicon trail. You might be thinking of cruise moab.

I budgeted for $3.50 per gallon so we'll see how high it goes...

So let's get some serious conversation going on what dates work and don't work for everyone. I know mudmaster has some time in July that is blacked out due to prior commitment.  I just texted him to find out what those are. Does anyone else have any no go dates in July?
