Look in the bowl and see if your fuel is boiling, or if the bowl is low.???

check the accel. pump passage. The small hole in the nozzle, under the gasket, may be some gunk in there, clean it out

I will be watching this, as mine sometimes die at idle.  It also started doing it at speed, but I figured out that's my GM ignition already going out.

Check your choke?  Might be stuck open

I am by no means a carb guru but I want to be.  I recently went from 3RZ to carb 22r in my 4runner.  I love running carb and I am determined to figure the 22r aisan carb out.

To start with here is what I think based on my experiences:

Look at your fuel filter.  You have the nice, cheap one that's up there on the fender well.  It sounds like you have fuel so that's probably not it but I've had mine run and drive on a slightly crusty fuel filter but idle poorly like that.

I agree on making sure your choke is working.  Get your air box top cover off and start it up so you can see things.  The choke, on the passenger side should be spring loaded in the closed position when the truck is cold then slowly open and go limp as it warms up.

I would then get into a manual and set the idle mixture and idle speed screws so you can establish a baseline there.

After setting those screws according to specs if it's still doing it then make tiny adjustments, like 1/4 turn out at a time on the idle mixture screw and 1/8 turn on the idle speed and see if it will idle.  Give the throttle a blip with your had as you make the adjustments while it's running.

Once you get it going keep adjusting to find it's happy place. There is nothing wrong with a 1,200 rpm idle with the advance hooked up.

That reminds me...  Is your timing set properly? Can't tell in the pic but it looks like it might be a little retarded. Might try advancing like 2 degrees and see if that helps.

I think I remember seeing that awhile ago.  Now, you've given me something else to do while my truck is "under the knife".

Been messing with it latley and noticed the fuel filter on the fender wall is very low I'm surprised that it had been running better after driving it how from the shop what could be preventing the filter from filling up and what does the bubble and half full float point in the direction of? Thanks again!

Been some time so I'll fill y'all in eventually checked everything fuel related and found that a piece off the top of the carb was missing keepin the flap from closing , tied some metal around it and presto it was idling high at 2rpm but idling ended up needing to get it rebuilt ! Since then it's been running alot better but still won't do the classic first turn. I'm in process of replacing my catalytic converter on back. there's just something not right and thats when I noticed when I've been coming up to lights or stop signs it has a rough idle and my Oil pressure on my guage starts to drop :( bummer well peyotas worth fixing or upgrading no matter what so I'll keep you updated on all the fun
On a side note i found a nice  60/40 Tacoma bench seat in pristine condition with cover for 40$ of Craigslist from a kid who swaped STI seats into his 97, my swap came out great  so nice and simple to be able to utilize the space behind my seats! those stock buckets
